How Graph Analytics Helps the IRS: A Reflection on Our Recent Talk

We recently had the honor of speaking at the IRS-hosted ACMTA conference, where we shared insights from our early work applying graph analytics to model user behavior in public-sector systems.

At the event, I highlighted one of AtomRain’s foundational projects with the IRS — at a time when graph databases were just beginning to gain traction. Our team developed a Customer Journey Graph, a structure that tracked transitions between user events and delivered adaptive, context-aware recommendations.

This solution helped the IRS uncover hidden behavioral patterns and better understand how citizens navigate complex digital services. It was more than a technical challenge — we were committed to building systems that remain fair, transparent, and aligned with public-sector privacy and compliance standards.

We’re truly grateful to see our work making a difference in systems that impact the entire nation. That’s what inspires us to keep innovating in the areas that matter the most.Benjamin Nussbaum, Founding Principal, AtomRain

This case remains a foundational part of AtomRain’s story — a powerful example of how graph-based technologies and intelligent systems can serve the public good.
